Johnathan Ormond-Prout
Executive Director
What is your role and day-to day activities at First Person Project?
I provide insights which help guide the strategic direction of the organisation. I also prepare grant applications and bid documents.
What connection/experience have you had with mental health?
I am fortunate that my personal experiences with poor mental health have been limited. The only time I recall where I suffered with poor mental health was when my son was submitted to intensive care when he was born. As a person who is used to solving problems I suddenly found myself facing a problem I was unable to solve - I felt powerless. Thankfully it was a very brief period and after 2 weeks he made a full recovery and was well enough to come home with me and his mum.

What connection/experience have you had with mental health?
If you had a day off to recharge your mental health, what would your ideal day look like? What activities would you enjoy?
A quiet walk in the countryside with a nice pub lunch.
What's the most memorable piece of advice you've received regarding mental health, and how has it influenced your approach?
When people are rude or aggressive quite often there will be something negative in their lives driving this behaviour. Do not meet negativity with more negativity. Be patient and kind to people and you will usually get the best out of them.I approach everyone with kindness and positivity.

What do you enjoy most about working for First Person Project?
I have friends and family who have suffered with poor mental health and unfortunately the support available to them when they needed it most was not sufficient to meet their needs. First Person Project bridge the current gap in support. We provide support to anyone who needs it without inclusion criteria and without waiting lists. I also love my colleagues at First Person Project, they are caring, compassionate and good fun to be around.
What positive attributes do you bring to the First Person Project team?
As my background is in science and my professional experience includes a combination of technical, commercial, project management and strategic roles in private sector, industrial settings I bring a different perspective and complementary skill set to the board of directors.
